Sept. 12 // Fall Migration Bird Walk

9 a.m. September 12 / Northeast Wisconsin Bird Alliance (NEWBA) Board Member Edwin Wilke will host a casual encounter with birds. September is a great time to experience fall migration, including various Warblers and Sparrows. Browse our e-bird list to learn more.

Wilke is the Bird Outing Coordinator at NEWBA and an experienced birder. He began birding while growing up in his home state of Florida. During his undergraduate degree at Florida Gulf Coast University, his passion for birding took off. Soon after, he got his start as a field biologist conducting shorebird breeding surveys. He is now working towards his master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay studying songbird habitat use and diet. He fills every moment of free time exploring his new home state of Wisconsin and obsessively birding!

Expect to walk about one mile with periodic stopping points to enjoy the birds we see – hopefully plentiful, but that’s up to nature! The trails at Van der Brohe Arboretum are gravel with some gradual hills and periodic benches available for breaks. Bring sturdy footwear, snacks, water, and sunscreen and of course binoculars! A few pairs will be available to borrow for the duration of our walk if needed.

BONUS! Barnwood Coffee will be available selling its bird-friendly coffee from 8 a.m. to noon as part of its Coffee with the Birds series.

We will meet at the Propagation Center at the Van der Brohe Arboretum. From the main parking lot off Highway 42, walk the trail north about 3 to 5 minutes to the building.
