Partnership Enhances Environmental Programs

Several environmental projects will add to our calendar of events during 2026 thanks to an exciting new partnership with the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory (LMBO).

LMBO’s mission is to advance the conservation of birds in Wisconsin and throughout the Western Great Lakes Region through coordinated research, monitoring, and education. LMBO is based in Port Washington and partners with organizations in various parts of the state to implement programming in support of its mission.

At Van der Brohe Arboretum, this will include:

  • A tree giveaway in April 2026.
  • Free yard consultations to Two Rivers and Manitowoc residents (see more on flyer below).
  • And the installation of a Purple Martin box on our property.

Purple Martins are a member of the swallow bird family, and are a species of Special Concern by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. According to the DNR, “Humans now provide nearly all nesting sites used by this species, which include established structures like birdhouses or nest boxes and gourds.”

We are excited to provide a habitat to this special species, and look forward to our partnership with LMBO.
